ABOUT SBI

The Harrisburg High School, School of Business & Industry Honors Prep Program (SBI) is a competitive, innovative business and industry honors college and career preparatory program where students must have at least a 3.0 grade point average in order to be accepted. The Program involves rigorous innovative courses of study with exposure to the “real world professional experiences” for high achievers.

Established in 1992

The program initially began, with the approval of the Harrisburg School District Board of Directors, as a partnership between Harrisburg High School and Florida A&M University, under the direction of Clenistine Dunson, in 1992. Mrs. Dunson served as the SBI Instructor and Executive Director until her retirement in 2011.

Since its revitalization in July 2012, we have added an Intro to SBI and Personal Development phase for 9th graders. Its focus is to prepare high achieving 9th graders for the rigors of the prep program and to encourage them to maintain a 3.0 grade point average in order to meet the prerequisites established for acceptance into the dynamic SBI Honors Program.

SBI is a harmonious blend of theory, hands-on-experience and exposure to the community of work which creates an atmosphere of enthusiasm, motivation and nurturing for optimal educational preparation. It operates like a business and the scholars are expected to achieve.

SBI Mission Statement

The aim of the program is orienting potentially high achieving students to the real world of business and industry thereby teaching them basic essential business concepts, while at the same time enhancing and developing certain basic academic and life skills that are fundamental to their academic success. Our goal is to produce scholars who will be better prepared for the future and who will be able to meet the demands of this highly competitive society.
